Kitchen Remodeling in Minneapolis With Three Design Options

4.9 from 54 Google reviews

Sicora Design / Build draws every remodel at three price points, then builds it with its own project managers and Rift Sawn cabinet shop. The firm has served the west metro since 2000, now under owner Ron Sonnek.

One firm for design, cabinets and construction

Sicora Design / Build has offered kitchen remodeling in Minneapolis and the west suburbs since Thomas Sicora founded the firm in 2000. Today owner Ron Sonnek leads a team of interior designers, project managers and cabinetmakers working from 5601 W Lake St. You get one point of contact from the first consultation to the warranty walkthrough.

What sets the process apart is choice. For each project the designers draw three plans, lite, medium and heavy, at different price ranges, with floor plans, renderings and a 3D virtual walk-through.

You pick the level that fits, exact costs are set with the trade contractors, and the firm says projects land within 3% of budget on average.

Kitchen Remodeling

Timeless layouts, smart storage and quality materials, from a 'Refreshed' kitchen with new quartz tops to a full 'Design & Build' plan with a new island. Recent St. Louis Park kitchens pair Cambria and soapstone, and one adds a red oak stained island and a hidden pantry.

Owner's Suites and Bathrooms

Bedroom, bath and closet planned as one suite, with custom vanities, tile, lighting and storage, and in-floor heat at the top design level. A recent St. Louis Park owners' suite has his and her vanities with white quartz tops and maple cabinetry.

Basements

Unfinished lower levels turned into rooms the family actually uses. One case study took a walkout basement and made it the family's everyday hangout area, and other Sicora basements add wet bars, built-in media walls, game tables and wine storage.

Custom Cabinetry and Closets

Rift Sawn, Sicora's own cabinet and woodworking shop, builds kitchen cabinets, entertainment centers, bars, counters, shelving and built-ins, and no project is too big or too small. It also designs and installs custom closet systems at a more attainable price than typical luxury brands.

Porches, Living Spaces and Whole House

Porches, living rooms and whole-house remodels, including an all-season sun room addition and an Edina fireplace wall with a linear gas fireplace, custom ledge stone and tape lighting. Before-and-after photo pairs on the whole-house page show what a full makeover can change.

Ron Sonnek and the Sicora team

Thomas Sicora founded the firm in 2000, and it still focuses on timeless, custom design delivered through an engaging, transparent process, which the company calls the Sicora difference. Ron Sonnek now owns the business.

His team includes production manager Jim Gill, interior designers Darcy Dickman and Heidi Kinder, project manager Dave Stricker, Tim Nurkka on service and warranty, and four cabinet shop craftsmen. Reviewers name Ron, Darcy and Jim for keeping design wishes and budgets in check and staying on top of progress.

Minneapolis remodeling questions for Sicora

What does a kitchen remodel cost?

Sicora's ballpark guide for a 12 by 12 foot kitchen runs from about $38,000 for a 'Refreshed' kitchen with existing cabinets and new quartz tops, to $55,000 'Refaced,' $89,000 'Transformed' with new custom cabinets, and $102,000 and up for a full 'Design & Build' with a new layout and island.

What does a bathroom remodel cost?

For a 6 by 10 foot bathroom, the guide lists about $29,000 for 'Clean,' $32,000 for 'Refresh' with tile flooring and $45,000 for 'Renew' with a custom vanity, granite top and tile surround. A full 'Design & Build' bath with in-floor heat is priced per project.

How long does a remodel take?

Design usually takes two to four months, because you review three plans, renderings and a 3D walk-through. Construction runs two to five months depending on the project. Contract development falls between the two, after trade contractors walk the site and exact costs are set.

What warranty do you offer?

Sicora provides a 2-year mechanical and 10-year structural warranty. About 11 months after your project is done, the team schedules a walkthrough for any repairs. If something comes up beyond those warranties, the firm asks you to tell them, since the goal is clients for life.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. Sicora offers a free in-home consultation, and you can choose a phone or virtual meeting instead. Please book at least three days ahead. For an earlier slot, call the front desk at (952) 929-0098 and the team will do its best to fit you in.
